Cadence, after a 2 day battle may have defeated a female at Union County and looks to be taking over. Didn't know it was her until she entered the nest box and mwplay saw her bands!!

New Jersey and yes resident female was badly injured yesterday, bleeding out of her chest. It's been hell watching it and I had no idea it was our Cadence!!
Other female laid her second egg last night while injured, male is on eggs now.

She just appeared on cam.
Check out BCAW - Jersey City/Union County. It's the courthouse.
And on BCAW, there's a beautiful picture of her posted by Carolyn. She looks like a combo of DC & B. Big girl.

Betty Ann Kelly ยท Environmental Specialist at County of Union Dept Parks & Community Renewal
Our falcons have been involved in a battle over territory and mate with another falcon. It looks as though our female has been attacked in the chest area. This stressful situation could have an impact on egg laying and incubation but all we can really do is wait and see what happens next. This is unfortunately how nature is. We are simply observers. Let's hope for the best.

2nd egg laid last night in spite of the continuing saga being played out on the Union County Courthouse roof! Male & female both continue to battle the 3rd bird in an effort to defend territory. The female, in spite of her wound, seems to be holding up. Stay tuned.

Elizabeth is not too far from me, closer to Jersey City!
I don't like these battles when eggs are involved, I don't like battles at all for that matter!

Me either Donna and this one has been particularly tough to watch. Cadence has been relentless on her. If you had seen the resident female last night it would have broke your heart, she was bleeding so badly and struggling to lay an egg. She looked better today but she was exhausted. She hasn't been seen for a few hours now and then we saw Cadence march into the box.. no idea if it's over but I expect the mom must be injured again if she didn't come back to her eggs.

Came over earlier to post a pic with bands, but since I cannot start a new topic under offspring, could not find a good place to post.
The two eggs belong to the other female, the current resident female at the nest. The first egg was laid on March 23, and the second only this morning. With her injury, I don't know how she managed to make it back to the nest and lay her second egg.
The resident female, who is unbanded, took this nest from the previous resident female in January of this year. She is unbanded. The male is also unbanded.
I don't know if this battle is over, or just on pause. No matter what the outcome, there are no winners here.

How sad is this Carly, I feel so bad for both. I know they do this but it still breaks my heart! They are just brutal battles! Thanks for all the info!

The best place to start a topic related to Rochester falcons is in Rochester Falcon Discussion.
