Thanks everyone for your help. I have regular Goldfinch all year and they like the same seed as this new one so I guess he will be well fed. This is a Life Bird for Dave and I...it's exciting to have him in our yard.

Your treat of a bird should be on the "rare bird alert" for...are you in Monroe County? It may be someone's pet, but one never knows! I LOVE the pics!!

Once upon a time I had one visiting my feeders. It had a copper band which is supposed to be on all caged birds. Check and see if yours has one and if so, it is an escaped bird.
Someone mentioned that the proverbial they were trying to introduce the European Goldfinch in the US. Any more details on that?
