Twitchers' delight as rare bird spotted in Europe for first time after taking wrong turn in Canada on way to MexicoEven for a birdwatcher, a trudge across four precarious miles of shifting sand dunes and shingle lashed by hail storms and gale force winds shows unusual commitment.
But when the object of your interest has gone 3,000 thousand miles out of its way to be there, it seems a small sacrifice to make.
Hundreds of twitchers have been making the pilgrimage to Blakeney Point, a spit on the north Norfolk coast, after hearing that a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher had landed there - its first ever appearance in Europe.

I believe that this is an Alder Flycatcher. I suppose there is a very slim
chance it could be an eastern Willow Flycatcher, but the eyering, crown
color, contrasty throat, primary projection, bright green back all indicate
Alder (as well as migration timing and distance).
