Dana spots a young Peregrine Falcon near the Irondequoit Mall at noon, eating on a telephone pole.  When I receive a text from Dana that the bird is still in the area around 4 pm, I decided to join her.  You can see what we saw and read my report at this link.  Please be warned that the last picture is very graphic.

Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure they were both hit by cars.  The dead one was in the path of cars, while the one that was still living was in the medium.  Hope they're able to save it.  Not sure what caused them to fly so low.  We didn't even know they were there at first, but the Peregrine sure did.

Very sad for the pair but a happy Peregrine. Hope she doesn't bank on that happening again.

Great report and pics.  This demonstrates that peregrines are opportunists too, and their lack of cautiousness at a young age when they are very hungry.  So glad you both were there to keep an eye out for this juvie.  Nice job.

I finally gathered pictures from last weekends events.  Here's some pics or the unbanded juvie I was lucky enough to watch eating a pigeon at lunch, and a gull for dinner last Friday.   I work in the area and have checked each day this week but was unable to spot the falcon again.  Was it just passing through our area, or has it learned to stay away from me  Wink

Warning, the first 10 pics are not for those with a weak stomach.
