I suppose we all need a reminder now and then of the horrors that humans can inflict on their animals. The story was so well written - Vick's victory celebrations and rave quotes about him - interspersed with what he did to that dog - that I almost wish I had never read it.
Poor Mel. I hope he can some day enjoy life without such overwhelming fear.

This is one of the dogs that the H$U$:
A. Collected thousands of dollars in donations to "care for", when in reality, the H$U$ never had anything whatsoever to do with any of them, and
B. Recommended that they all be killed for being too vicious to be salvageable.
Best Friends stepped up and took them in.

Best Friends worked some powerful miracles-- along with the miracles that came from these dogs being able to trust humans again however minimal that trust has been.
I think these dogs are called "Vicktorious" and that is fitting.
I hope Mel, with the help of a loving family, will heal.
I'd like Vick to be bait.

He is bait every time he steps into the pocket to throw the football! I imagine there's alot of defensive players gunning for him and putting a little extra into their tackles.
