Davis CA has turkeys galore! They moved in about six years ago and settled at the cemetery. They soon outgrew the cemetery and some moved to the greenbelts that go through town. Unfortunately they did not stay in the greenbelts but started wandering in the neighborhoods. For me, they have been amusement. They wander my neighborhood. One of the neighbors feeds them (fine with me). The neighbor next door does not want them in her yard. Of course they like to rest in her yard. The other day I opened my front door and there were 35 turkeys in my front yard. My yard is not that big but there was plenty of room for them. They were delightedly consuming the slugs and snails that were there. They moved down the street to a neighbors yard whose front yard is full of flowers. The neighbor came out and armed himself with a water-hose and sent them packing to another neighbors yard. A bit funny. He tried to chase them out of the neighbors yard but his water-hose only reached so far. My almost blind and deaf dachsund (16 yr) took the turkeys on and managed to scare them down the street with their wings flapping, Picky was quite proud of himself. He could still protect his house in spite of his afflications.

We hardly ever saw wild turkeys here until a few years ago. The people at our local nature center told me that they were making a comeback because there weren't many raccoons around to eat their eggs. Rabies got a lot of raccoons here in CT a few years ago!
