Possible PF in Hornell, NY

Good Morning ... @8:20am i received phone call from excited friend in Hornell.. who has not been a Falcon Fan ... sighted a large, unusual bird swoop down on the birds at his bird feeder... got a look thru binoculars when it settled a moment in a nearby tree... he was sure it was a falcon of some kind, looked for info on internet and is certain it's markings are that of a PF ...
are there any Falcon watchers in Hornell ??? would they be aware of a possible PF in the area ???
They should be alerted to this possible sighting in area of S. Division St.
I advised him to find a camera & look for bandings
( i hope i posted this in the right place)

Hi Sharon,
Don't know of any Watchers in Hornell, but maybe someone will see this post. Hope your friend is able to get a picture.

Thank you, Carol
That is what i am hoping...to find more eyes to the sky in Hornell.
I should mention this location is a block away from St. James Hospital (5+stories)
and about 1/2 mi from Canisteo River....
My friend also mentioned there has been a noticeable decline in the crow population in the area this past summer... lol
i just chatted a bit with "kitty"/Ei .. re: the bird feeder
& i wanted to mention that the ?PF? wasnt so much interested in the feeders
but the population of smaller birds and Blue Jays that were feeding there.

Usually the raptors that frequent bird feeders are Coopers Hawks, Sharp-shined Hawks and even Red-tail Hawks going after squirrels. But, it certainly doesn't mean that a Peregrine or maybe a Merlin wasn't taking advantage of a meal in someone's backyard.
I really hope your friend is able to get a picture of his visitor.

Happy Wednesday Friends
My friend in Hornell just called to bring me up to date on his bird watching.
He said he has also talked with friends & neighbors of the area, and they have decided that what was seen was a Kestrel/Sparrow Hawk.
However, i think we have a new Falcon enthusiast, and perhaps someday we'll get him up to Rochester to meet Beauty & Archer and families...introduce him to the 'real thing'.
Thank You everyone for your help & interest.
