2 Fined For Deer Rescue During Thursday's Storm

BALTIMORE -- Natural Resources Police have fined two men who helped rescue a deer trapped in a frozen river because they were not wearing life jackets aboard their inflatable boat.

The Baltimore County Fire Department and Natural Resources Police officers were called to the Patapsco River Bridge last week after a deer fell through the ice.

NRP Sgt. Brian Albert said James Hart of Jessup and Khalilalim Abusakran Jr. were on the scene, but officers told them to get off the waterway because they weren't wearing required life jackets.

Instead, Albert said the men continued to advance, and broke the ice so the deer could make it to the shoreline.

Albert said the because the men didn't follow instructions, they were each fined $90.

Update:  A listener to 630 WMAL in Washington just called Fred Grandy and said HE Would Pay the fines.  There is a Santa, but he doesn't live in Annapolis!  AND you guys wonder WHY I can't stand DNR????

Are you serious? I'd do the same if needed. Fine me, put me in jail. At least I know I saved a life.

(The cops and the fine, that is - NOT the rescuers! As we know: "No good deed goes unpunished.")

DNR have more power than real police.  Unfortunately, along with that power, reason is not always present.  That's one of the fields that attract wannabes  Sad

Exactly, Carol!  They are the potty police, they check the heads on boats arrest you if you put rockfish bones BACK into the Bay (???), and pretty much have ignored the NATURAL RESOURCES portion of their jobs!  Just like another group of wannabes - prision guards!
