Zoothera sibirica
The Siberian Thrush, Zoothera sibirica, is a member of the Thrush family Turdidae.
It breeds in taiga in Siberia. It is strongly migratory, with most birds moving to southeastern Asia during the winter. It is a very rare vagrant to western Europe. It is very secretive.
The Siberian Thrush is similar in size to the Song Thrush. It is omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, earthworms and berries.
The male Siberian Thrush is a dark blue-grey above and below, with a white stripe above the eye. The lower belly and flanks are white. The female is a much browner bird, with a buff stripe above the eye.
A striking identification feature of both sexes in flight is the black band on the white underwings, a feature shared with the White's Thrush (

It's a VERY lucky take-off shot.
OK, I thought it was from above, but it's so wild. The wingtips are just exquisite. That's definitely suitable for framing.
Thanks

I agree with Dale - exquisite!

Z is for Zenaida Dove. I'm not sure which specise, but this guy turned up on Ocracoke Island on Labor Day weekend, right after the hurricane. It seemed tired and disoriented, but glad to have found an island. Anyone recognize the species?

Paul
- sounds like me, except that I haven't found an island yet, but I'd be glad to find one, too.
A warm and relatively dry one, please.

Greetings Carla
That's a
lovely
white sparrow, Carla!!
Its Latin name sounds like about five diseases, but what a pretty animal!!
As for "too late," well, whoever finds a great bird should just enter it into its thread!
I see no reason to have an expiration date on them!
Have a good and safe holiday, all!!

This bird is awesome! And I love Whatsits where we know what it is: It’s a Fincher’s Turaco from Zanzibar! But I do have a question about this bird: doesn’t its hairstyle look… familiar? Isn’t there an ’80s singer with hair like that? I’ve been wracking my brain trying to recall who it was… The closest I could come up with is Grace Jones or… Annie Lennox? I know I’ve seen someone with hair exactly like this bird! Does anyone know who I’m talking about?"
