Birds of Prey Foundation some of their rescues

Birds of Prey Foundation Red-tailed Hawk admitted in December 2010 unable to stand. He is still in ICU making slow but steady progress. Hopefully he will be ready to move to the flight cages after the cold weather moves out.
The total number of birds admitted for 2010 was 532


Screech Owl who was caught and carried around by the wing by a dog. Amazingly enough, there were no broken bones. He is missing his tail feathers and had a small puncture wound on his wing. He is recovering in our ICU. When he is well enough he will be moved into a large outdoor flight cage with other Screech Owls.
Hatching year Raven begging us for a snack. This little guy needs a crash-course in learning to be a Raven since he was raised by people before we admitted him.
One very sad-looking Barn Owl. She was admitted after getting into a bucket of copper-based joint compound. We have washed and washed, but still cannot get all of it off. She will spend the winter inside under a heat lamp because she has no insulation against the cold. Please cover buckets that are not empty!!!!
Saw-whet Owl patiently waiting for Spring. This little guy was admitted late this fall after hitting a window. He is ready for release now, but we have to wait for Spring in the mountains now.
Osprey who was admitted this fall with puncture wounds and bruising on one wing. He was very thin and weak when he got here. He is finally in a large flight cage starting to fly. Dec 6 2010

Our rough collie, Ceili, was wandering around the "acreage" one day when she came dancing up, as usual. But... something did not look right. Sure enough - she had a Pied Wagtail in her mouth. Not hurting it. Not biting down... just carrying it around! I called her over, made her sit, and I extracted the bird without protest from her. No bother, no probs... just very bright little bird eyes looking at me. He/She was fine and flew off, none the worse for the unscheduled trip.

She was! And still much-missed. Never knew a dog with such a sense of humour.

(FYI - "CEILI" is pronounced "KAY-lee" - the Irish word for "a dance".)
