I think it is dreadfully sad, Donna! The female had to swim all those miles because of the vanishing sea ice. And the yearling cub that set out with her did not make it. AND - it is sad for all of us if this cannot be stopped. Worth reading tho - we never know when we might read something about which we can actually DO something! Tho what that is... My heart breaks for this heroic Mama Bear. So yes - a "Sad" warning.

I saw a show on TV about the same thing but it was the male who swam miles just to look for food for his family. He even tried to snatch some from an elephant seal and got injured. He was too weak to make it back to his family. That was hard to watch and I had to leave the room before it ended.
