KVCAP buses have new lookAUGUSTA -- A cadre of new midsize buses emblazoned with peregrine falcon logos took to the roads of Augusta and Waterville on Monday.
It was the launch of the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program's revamped and expanded public transit system, known as the Kennebec Explorer.
The Explorer system features six newly purchased buses that travel around and between Augusta and Waterville.
"It makes it a little bit better than taking Greyhound," said Mitchell Block, of Gardiner, the first passenger to board the Augusta-to-Waterville bus Monday morning.
The Kennebec Explorer buses feature a flipout ramp system that makes it easier for people with disabilities to board, said Jim Wood, business manager for KVCAP's transportation program.
KVCAP's other vehicles, which will become spare vehicles for the organization, used a lift system for handicapped passengers.
