SPARTA — A Jersey City man's likely regretting he spat on the floor of High Point Solutions.
The DNA extracted from his saliva led police to place him at the scene of the theft of $106,000 of computer equipment, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said Wednesday.
Adam Brewer, 44, who was already incarcerated in the Hudson County Jail on unrelated charges, was served with burglary and theft charges on March 9 in connection to the Oct. 27 burglary at High Point, Beebe said.
Stolen items appeared for sale in the online classified section of Craigslist, Beebe said. Sparta detectives, along with members of the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office and State Police, organized a sting that netted two off Brewer's alleged
accomplices.
Jersey City resident Reginald Winston, 40, and Troy Ceasar, 35, of Brooklyn, N.Y., were arrested on Oct. 30 when they arrived at a pre-arranged location in Denville to sell the stolen goods, Beebe said.
Both men are currently lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $175,000 each, police said.
Detective Sgt. John Schanstra on March 9 applied for an arrest warrant for Brewer after processing the scene the day of the incident and running DNA tests on saliva found on the floor, Beebe said.
"He was already incarcerated," Beebe said. "They had DNA on file that was a match."
The three men apparently met while working at a moving company, police said.
Brewer's bail was increased by $75,000 due to the Sparta charges, and all of the stolen items were recovered.
Detectives Terrence Mulligan and Keith Hannam assisted with the investigation.
