Matt Perry reports that Maya, the female Peregrine falcon that has lived in the area the last few years, has been seen frequently in downtown Utica the last two weeks.

She has been flying around the State Office Building and perched on her nest ledge at the M&T Bank. No second falcon has been confirmed, so Perry thinks she hasn’t found a replacement for her original mate, Tor, who – or which? - is believed to have died in February, 2010. The hope is that Maya will encounter another Peregrine as they migrate through area, and that nesting attempt will be made in the spring.

Sightings of falcons can be reported to Perry at mperry63@roadrunner.com. He is especially interested in sightings of two Peregrines together. He cautions that there is a starling in the area that has been mimicking a falcon call very well.
