2011 Peregrine falcon season
G-3
The three Peregrine falcon chicks that hatched at our G-3 nesting box this year were banded on Friday, May 27, on-site. Bob Anderson from the Raptor Resource Project and his assistants joined Dairyland’s John Thiel, Brad Foss, Mike Peters and Mike Rask to apply U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) bands to the two females and one male.
The chicks were named Six Cents (in memory of Penny Schieber), MISO and Edwiki. They are the product of the same Peregrine falcon pair that nested at G-3 last year, Lucas and Jezebel.
Unfortunately, as of June 1, one of the falcon chicks (likely Edwiki) was found to be deceased.
Banding of the chicks at the Alma area nesting site is planned for June 7. Again this year, the falcon pair in Alma has chosen to relocate to a natural nesting site on a bluff near our Alma Generating Station.
