A Wood Turtle came to visit us Monday evening and he/she was still hanging about last night.
Wonder if turtle eggs are in the future?

They do Carla, very common turtle. Box turtle. They come out once in a while from the woods. I haven't seen one in years but they are out there. We always had one as a pet when growing up, then we'd let it go before Summer was over. My brothers would paint a red stripe on the shell so we would recognize him if he ever crossed our path again.

TURTLE Update:
I think the She is digging nests for egg laying - depressions all over the garden and fortunately, in areas next to established plants or the pansies that are going to get killed by the heat shortly. I told Rich to leave her alone today (he has a delivery coming in, so he'll be in and out), as he can be a little boy
Time will tell....

90 days later,
I came home today and found a new-born baby turtle by the garage! I call Rich and told him that he was a Grandpa. We put the little guy back in the garden where we suspected the nest was (never found it).
