Is it still safe to eat?

I am
WAY
over-the-top crazy
about food safety, storage, handling etc. I throw a LOT of food away because of expiration dates, etc. etc. Of course, no one has ever gotten sick from my kitchen, but I am kooky about this. A friend sent me the following link, which contains some great information and will assist me when I start "tossing" again (I cleaned the pantry 2 days ago - canned tomatoes - gone!).

They were past the "best by" date. Donna, I am nuts about this, so this site might save me some $$, as I'll keep the tomatoes and use them 2 days later, rather than tossing them.
