My old boss (another reformed smoker) sent me this years ago.  I try to eat food that is fresh and local with organic being optional (I'd rather have a just picked tomato than an organic one from California, for example).  Anyway, this is good info that I thought I'd share with all of you.

The surprise was the beets.  When I got so sick about 4 years ago (from the high bp), I instinctively went to the beets.  They really put your "system" back in shape  thumbsup  Eat the Golden ones (Whole Foods, fresh) to avoid early morning surprises.
