WOW! A very long read but interesting!! I'm not done reading it yet, on page 3, distracted by Falcon yelling near nest.

Every year in Toronto, we await The Whimbrel Watch at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Etobicoke(westend of Toronto). There is a population of about 16000 Whimbrel in Hudsons Bay in the north of Ontario. Of that 16000 some years 8000 or more are seen from Col Sam flying back to their Hudsons Bay breeding grounds after wintering as far away as South America. Occassionally(less so since Col Sam has become dog off leash walking heaven grrrrr) some would stop off. Often they keep right on flying. Ive never been fortunate enough to hit a mass migration day, but always enjoy the Whimbrel we do see and the gang of folks that gather. Its always around our May 24th longweekend.

I'm a little behind the times, but enjoyed the article a lot! Jeane and I are going to be attending an event where Scott Wiedensaul (the author of the article) is the expert bird guide and speaker...so we're pretty pumped!
