U do know Chessie is nesting in Toronto area right? She is at William Osler Hospital in Etobicoke. She has two chicks banded on the 27th. One boy one gal, unnamed so far as hospital is having a name the chick contest. Here is the report. http://www.peregrine-foundation.ca/w/2012/06/sightings/william-osler-banding-success-two-very-healthy-hatchlings-one-male-and-one-female/ I know some of the Rochester gang was there.

Central Terminal - One of the babies escaped the nestbox and is now happily on the ledge below!  See her to the left under the box?

CT Fledge watch begins officially July 12, unoffically now!   scared blue

Also, if anyone is shuffling off to Buffalo this weekend, please contact me, as we are trying to get enough watchers to circle the fledge area and account for three fledges!  Odd reports received lately of Pefa hit on Winspear.  I think one report was a pigeon, the other old news of Athena being recirculated.  Carl did find a black hair extension on gutter area of Winspear at MacKay.

Problem is, we cannot account for all three fledgings around campus, at VA or water tower.   I have contacted DEC, SPCA, Buffalo Police, Campus Police, asked MacKay neighbors, etc.  Nothing has been reported.  But we still can't be sure of three fledges at once.  Sad

So, for any looking for something to do this weekend...

Sage - CT eyas looks safe and sound.  Nicely shaded under the nest box and mom and dad know exactly where s/he is.  The eyas may make it back into the nest box. One of Quest's did the same thing and so has M&K's in the past.  It still never gets easy to see them leave the nest box for the first time.

About the UB juvies.  They've been fledged for quite awhile now and are probably starting to spread out, even taking day trips.  It will get harder and harder to see all three together.  Have you checked out the communication tower?

Connie agrees the UB fledges should still be doing well and starting to go beyond OUR comfort zone. Smiley. And the CT baby also should be okay down there.  I remember seeing Quest's baby, first year, on the ledge and I was going nuts, but it got back in the box.  Smiley. Wait til the Rochester baby jumps out!!!   scared blue

Nest check at CT this am found Gleig   falcon doing fly-bys and touch 'n goes which thrilled the screaming girl  surprise  but the other kept falling asleep.   Both escapees are using the nestbox as a shade umbrella.  This means they cannot get out as far as they could on the perches.  Not sure if the box isn't mounted a bit too high for them to jump back in.  Fledging by the weekend I expect!
