New peregrine falcons call Blue Water Bridge home

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) — Some new peregrine falcons are calling the Blue Water Bridge home.
The Times Herald of Port Huron reports (
http://bwne.ws/K1WgD7 ) two adult birds swooped and buzzed Thursday near the heads of wildlife biologists banding five falcon chicks at the bridge, which links the U.S. and Canada at Port Huron.
Workers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources found the chicks in a nest box under the bridge's westbound span — two more birds than they thought they'd see.
The three female chicks named Mackenzie, Theisen and Murphy and two males named McMorran and Moore received bands marking their region of origin.
Peregrine falcons are an endangered species in Michigan. They typically nest on cliff faces or tall structures such as bridges and buildings.
