I don't go to that part of the city often so it was quite enlightening for me to see it - I really had no idea, I thought it was just that one building we've watched go up on cam but seeing two - side by side was an eye opener.  The second one is worse as they are no balconies or concrete on it - just pure reflective glass.  It must be weird for them seeing moving cranes bringing up large blocks of glass into their air space and then seeing their own reflection in it.

They are losing a large part of their view of the territory as well, give those two buildings block a good portion of it.  If there was another falcon around at some point - I imagine that would only have added to all the confusion.  Although perhaps that might actually be a deterrent for an intruder.

Anyway glad I went, it was bugging me too and now I understand their situation a bit better, I"m not a falcon so I can't speak for them and how they feel about it but I expect any change to their territory would be disturbing for them.

I did think of fledglings - there is still a nice expanse for them to fly out 'straight south', those two buildings don't block everything so that's good - in fact the front of their ledge is 'all clear'.  But you know kids, they never listen and no doubt some of them will eventually run into the glass unless mom and dad take them elsewhere, if they stay south and west of the ledge - it's not too bad.

Good grief, that's just terrible. I don't think there will be a normal on that ledge this season. Her eggs are just not happening at the moment. I hate watching with nothing going on! I feel so bad for them. Thanks Carly.  crying

Looks like it's snowing there. RM is on the egg protecting it while T is standing nearby on the ledge.  wub2

And now off the egg.

No one has been on for over 3 hours now - it's minus 4 and with wind chill minus 8 and now the snow has surrounded it.   Sad Sad Sad

Carly, thank you so much for all the information you have provided. I really appreciate that you took the time and trouble to go down to the nest area and report back about what is going on there.

No wonder the peregrines are stressed and on edge. I do wonder if an intruder has perhaps added to this stress level.

It is so sad to watch this happening. Rhea Mae and Tiago are such a wonderful pair.

Each time I checked the nest during the day, the egg was not covered. A couple of times, one of the birds was on the edge of the ledge, but did not go near the egg.

This is the last time I saw the egg being incubated:

Now, just one lonely egg sitting in the snow.
