This is the nest of George & Martha, eagle pair. I don't know what happened to them but this GHO pair, Bonnie and Clyde took over the nest. There was an attack twice on Bonnie by another GHO. She is on eggs/egg. She's not having a good time right now with all these intruders. Now I hear there was an eagle flying above the nest, possibly Martha?? If anyone knows more, please chime in.

GHO attack, I think this is by Bev, hard to watch.

OK, just found this on their FB page:

There have been a couple of great questions and concerns raised with the GHOs setting up in the nest, so I would like to touch on a couple of those. 1) the camera on the Wolf River Eagles' nest will not spook the Great Horneds, nor should we try if it could. I know everyone's intentions are good, but we are just observers of the wildlife and will not intervene. 2) will the eagles take the nest back over? We really don't know. Pat had some theories about what could happen, but she reminded us that we really don't know what nature's intentions are. 3) what if the GHOs have babies when the eagles return...oh no! That is a definite possibility and there is a chance that the eagles just go to a backup nest or they could chase off the parents and eat the young. No one wants that scenario but we have to realize that this probably happens every year somewhere. I think we can predict one thing from videos I've seen on this topic; if there is a hostile re-takeover of the nest by George and Martha, most of us will probably miss it. It will probably be relatively fast and furious and it will be a learning experience.
Or, the GHOs and Eagles both lay eggs and coexist in the nest together!!!! (That wont happen, but its fun to dream).

Bonnie and Clyde have 3 eggs.  I read that some think there's another GHO nest close by and they keep attacking Bonnie because they don't like them so close to their territory.

Hmm, so where is Clyde during these interruptions?  Seems Bonnie is taking it all!

To the best of my knowledge like you said, it was George & Martha (the eagles) nest.  I'm thinking they head further south in the winter because I'd seen a comment about them being due back soon and people weren't sure what would happen and hoped it was before the owls had their eggs laid.

I hadn't see the comment about GHO nearby that wanted them out of their territory, but it could make a lot of sense!

Wish they could all get along! I would certainly hate to see anything happen to the babies, if they hatch! Thanks Nora and Kris. (Or Bonnie for that matter)  Sad  She's holding her own!

2thumbsup Yep the latest from Eagleholic:

Whew! Wolf River owl eggs look intact after repeated attacks on Mom Owl
February 24, 2013 — birds, Bonnie, Clyde, eaglecam, egg, nature, Owl, raptors, Wolf River

There was some concern that the eggs were damaged in the attacks on Bonnie the last few nights.  Tonight the cam operator zoomed in and they look to be intact.  Yeah!   Although there is certainly another concern about the time she spends off the eggs.  It is not uncommon for her to be off the eggs from 20-40 minutes at a time.  Not knowing a thing about Great Horned Owls, I don’t know what is normal.  But hoping that this is not a problem!

Bonnie just chased off nest by another owl Can't see it but came in Hooting loud and she fled. 6 minutes ago, she was attacked 3 hours ago also. Be a miracle if these eggs hatch.

Pic from when she just left or chased off.

This is so sad plus George and Martha have returned and have been seen in the area the last few days.
