Callidora Discovers Life Outside The Nest Box
It didn’t take Callidora too long to figure out that only a short hop would take her outside. The nest box rests on a broad plywood platform that’s about 5 feet (1.5m) long and 3 feet (1m) wide, so there’s plenty of room to walk around. It’s also a good spot to get in some flapping practice.
If you’ve been watching our live video feed (now featuring two cameras!), you’ll have seen that both Callidora and little sister Jemison have been flapping their wings more and more. They’ll need to build the flight muscles in their chests before they take those first flights. That’s still a couple of weeks away, though.
In the meantime, watch for their white fluffy down feathers to disappear over the next several days as their juvenile feathers continue growing in at a quick clip. And keep an eye out to see if Jemison decides to join Callidora outside!

I like the two inside camera change off for streaming video, it allows us to see more of the action now. But when the “younguns” go out to flap, I forsee we will be left high and dry.

Can main cam be plugged into the live video feed?

Since it looks like the main camera is frozen (I got the same image yesterday) plugging it into the streaming feed would make many people unhappy. I also believe this question was asked before and the answer was no. There were some technical reasons, or bandwidth reasons or something.

I don’t think the Main Cam nor Cam 1 have streaming capabilities.

Thanks for getting the main camera working again!

The streaming cameras and the audio are incredible. I was amazed by the amount of noise Calli and Jemi made today – I had to turn off the speakers on my laptop since my dogs were getting spooked! And from Archer’s actions, it looked like he was feeling the same way. Watching these first time parents deal with their eyases makes me renew my admiration for how Mariah/Cabot-Sirroco/Kevar raised their many young.
I wish Beauty and Archer the same success. but I still miss Mariah.
