Fledge Watch – Carol Phillips – July 4, – 7:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Well, we knew it would happen. As Larry O reported this a.m., all 4 juvies discovered downtown Rochester. We were able to see the four young Peregrines soaring above the Xerox Building south of the pedestrian bridge.
When I first arrived around 7:30 a.m., Dan S reported that Mariah had gathered up the girls in the gorge, where they had been putting on quite the show for the early morning watchers, and took them to the big city for a visit. It was a rainy, dreary morning, so most of the watchers decided it was time to head home. A few of us headed for the shelter under Jimmy Macs porch.
It wasn’t long before Grace returned to the gorge. She landed on a nearby building for a few seconds, just long enough to let us get a few pictures before she took off and landed on the BeeBee Station. Another unidentified juvie flew in and landed on top of the northern most smoke stack.
When the rain let up just a bit, the remaining watchers headed home. Joyce and I were the last to leave, so we decided to make a quick trip downtown to check for the other two juvies. We found them both sitting on one of the lower buildings of Midtown Plaza.
Mariah flew in with food and the chase was on. Both juvies chased her around Midtown Plaza. Mariah didn’t make it easy for them. She ended up dropping the food and the juvies dove after it, one catching the dropped meal. We later identified the lucky recipient of lunch as Sacajawea. She landed on the north side (lower level) of Midtown Plaza, while her sister landed on the east side just around the corner.
I just happened to have switched to video on my camera during the food chase and drop. You can see it here. After Sacajawea ate her fill, the other juvie (unidentified) finished the leftovers. These girls sure do share alot.

While I was outside today waiting in line to get my jumbo white hot from Dave’s stand near Washington Square, I decided to look up at the Xerox building to see if there was any activity. I was happy to see 3 of the juvies flying around above the building. They did a little talon tag and flew somewhere south.
