Feeding Three Hungry Eyases
As we noted, the young eyases like to be fed. Here’s the first view of all three being fed by Mariah.
Click the thumbnail at the left to see a full-sized image of the feeding courtesy of the Falconcam’s High Resolution Kodak digital camera. These are exciting times here at the Rochester Falconcam. We’ll try to bring you pictures throughout the day.
We’re a dedicated bunch here at the Falconcam, but despite our best efforts we sometimes miss viewing all of the pictures. An invaluable tool for catching up or reviewing past images is the Falconcam Archive Viewer. Created by longtime falcon fan Shaky, you can use it not only to view pictures you might have missed, but even to share them with your friends and family. Shaky also has a wealth of Falconcam-related information on his site, so be sure to check it out. With all the hatching activity Shaky’s Archive Viewer is pretty busy today, so don’t be surprised if it takes a while to load, but give it a try!

Jess,
These are great pictures. I was lucky enough to log onto the sight right at the time of feeding. This is just an incredible thing to witness. Thanks for all the valuable information.

A quick Falcon Watch note (5/8/08). A little past 1:00 p.m., Kaver flew in with food for his three young eyases. Mariah came out of the nest box and met Kaver for a food exchange. Kaver flew above Mariah (who was kakking the whole time), dangling the prey from his beak. Mariah flew up towards Kaver and flipped over, going talons up. She grabbed Kaver’s offering and brought it to the nest box to give the three young eyases their first meal. – Carol P.

This is the 7th year my students have been glued to the computer watching the falcons. Last week we did our falcon play for the parents and school community. Today in honor of the play and the newly hatched babies we are having a party. What does one serve at a falcon party…… chicken wings of course. 🙂

Great! I knew that shell wasn’t there in previous pictures. With the times being wrong even Shakey wasn’t right about still having 3. (about 3)
Good news. Shouldn’t be long for # 5 now. Have to hurry to make Mothers Day.

Why Jess??
May 10th, 2008 at 6:50 PM
I am confused because I still see two eggs under Mariah as of a minute ago or so (10:48 WA time). So do we have four hatchlings or not ?
May 10th, 2008 at 6:57 PM
You might just see an eggshell or maybe its just the one egg and it just looks like two. 😉
May 10th, 2008 at 7:01 PM
I wondered that since the earlier photo sure looked like 4 babies ! This is so fun to watch, isn’t it ? Amazing and glorious.
May 10th, 2008 at 8:02 PM
@ezsha- The eyases will be fed four or more times each day. They have to do all their growing in just six weeks, so they’re almost always hungry.
@AJ- the timestamps on the comments come from the server that hosts our website. It’s in a different timezone than Rochester.

I may have been premature…. it appears on may have a REALLY big mouth in the image above… I apologize for any premature excitement 🙁
but if I am wrong, one is surely on it’s way, as the pips in the shell have led to a big gap!

ay-yi-yi-yi!
well, as soon as I make my apology, Mariah pulls a big piece of shell out of the nest!
