Quest Still Sticking to Northeast Lake Ontario Shore
View Quest Travels October 2009 in a larger map
The last several days’ locations have Quest moving to the east, away from Port Hope and Wesleyville. In fact, with the exception of one trip west to Nanticoke Ontario on the 15th all of her movements have been eastward.
Her current location is the northern shore of Lake Ontario near Amherst Island. Position data for the past two days places her at the Lennox power station, which has a pair of tall smokestacks; perfect Peregrine perches (thanks to viewer Chrissy for the station ID)! There’s no telling whether she’ll stay here for the winter. Last year at this time she was ensconsed on Cape Cod. Time will tell if she decides to migrate or stick close to the lake.

She doesn’t have too far to travel to get home. I wish her another successful Winter, where ever she may go.

I would rather she NOT try to get home, because it isn’t home anymore. I hope she finds a nice unoccupied bit of territory and, in the spring, a handsome tiercel who is a great hunter to raise a family with.

True, Alison. And I will add my hope that she loses the harness before that handsome tiercel comes along. That antenna looks like it could be lethal under certain circumstances!
Clicking through to the larger map and checking “photos” under “more” reveals a photo of the smokestacks Jess describes. The facility is Lennox Power station.

It’s always so good to check and find a new update.

Just in case someone reading here hasn’t heard the news…you MUST see Carol P.’s report on Falconwatch! http://rfalconcam.com/falconwatching/

The harness with antenna will not stop, or harm, a lovie-crazed tiercel, have no fear on that quarter. There are accounts of successful matings and nestings of antennaed birds. Some even seen on webcams.

I agree with Alison… I would rather Quest NOT try to get home. I too hope she finds a nice, unoccupied piece of territory to call her own to live her life in peace. Let’s hope that nature is that kind to her!
