Fledge Watch – Ryan & Tom Lentz, Saturday June 23, 8:00-9:30 am

Our first watch of the year. Several other watchers were already there when we arrived which helped us locate Kaver, on the catwalk on the center smoke stack; Mariah, on the Kodak building; 2 of the fledglings, on the building south of the Kodak building; and a third fledgling on the Kodak building. We later learned this was Linn. We could hear the fourth fledging on one of the buildings north of the Kodak building.

At around 8:15 Linn flew from the building (apparently her second flight!) and landed back on the side of Kodak building. After holding on for a short while flapping her wings she flew again this time landing on a ledge.

Shortly after Linn’s flight Mariah quickly flew over the gorge. We didn’t see her come back but within several minutes she was spotted on the 13th floor ledge.

Linn made several more short flights flapping her wings each time prior to taking off. This was helpful because it gave use a indication she was about to go. Her last landing was a soft one on a ledge on the Kodak building. It was noted that Kaver would watch her as she was in the air.

When we left, Linn was resting on the ledge, Mariah was still on the 13th floor and Kaver had not moved from his catwalk perch. The two on the south building had moved so they were no longer visible from the street. Several new watchers had arrived.

So Linn finally took to the air, Yeah!!! Thanks so much to everyone for their great updates. I feel like I am there with all the wonderful details. I look forward to more updates.

I have been watching those birds since the first egg was laid. I am an ex Rochesterian (now living in Florida) and have enjoyed checking on them several times a day. Some of the night pictures were great and some were comical to see. I will miss them, hopefully next year I am able to enjoy the next family.
    Thanks

I have been following the Rochester Beauties (as I call them) for some time and have read all the updates with great interest! Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to report on your observations! It is great that all the girls have fledged safely and are now enrolled in Mom and Dad’s Flying School! I expect it will be some time before the girls take their final exams, so please keep your observations and reports coming–they are much appreciated! A moment ago, I saw one of the girls in the play pen. Does anyone know which one it is or was?
