Spending a Half Hour with Mariah – 7/5/09
From Rochester Falcon Watcher ~ Joyce
Late Sunday afternoon, Casey (my canine falcon watcher) and I joined Brian H, Shaky and Carrie on the pedestrian bridge. I was told Falcon sightings of Beauty and Archer were sparse, and Mariah was sitting on Kodak with her back to us and motionless. She likes those long afternoon naps. For the next couple of hours we saw very little and talked a lot. Before heading home, I stopped for an ice cream, and decided to drive by Kodak Tower one more time.
Mariah was still perched on the east side, 16th floor ledge. Hooray, she was facing forward for a change. Since we aren’t able to see Mariah on the webcam, I thought I would get creative…here is my FIRST videoshow with music.

Very nice. What terrific shots as she streched her wings, you did a GREAT job capturing those. And the music went well, a lot of thought went into the video and it does not look like a first effort 🙂

THANK YOU JOYCE!! YOU MADE MY WEEK! HOW WONDERFUL IT IS TO SEE MARIAH AND YOU DID THE BEST JOB OF GETTING ALL THOSE PICS!! – IT’S ALMOST LIKE WATCHING HER IF YOU GO THROUGH FOR JUST A COUPLE SECONDS ON EACH SLIDE! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TENACITY ON THAT SUNDAY AFTERNOON – YOUR WAIT WAS SO WORTH IT!!

chicki – The piece of music is called “Ballade Pour Adeline” I have no idea who the reording artist is, but it does have a sound similar to Richard Clayderman.

Thank you! A lovely slide show. For those of us in need of our falcon watching “fix,” that was just the thing!

That was outstanding! Beautiful pictures and music of the one and only Mariah, it actually brought tears to my eyes. She is such an incredible falcon! Thank you for sharing that with us.

Beautiful slide show, but I found it sad to see Mariah sitting there for
so long, alone. No mate and no chicks this year. Other years she would have been so busy.
Maybe next year!

Have a few tears in my eyes – Mariah is such a beautiful bird who has been through so much this year. She was the very first peregrine I began watching via the live cams on the internet. Because of her, I am a fan of all peregrines ! Thank you for the video.

Joyce, thanks so much for sharing your beautifully done video! Mariah looks just wonderful.
As it’s your first effort, here’s a bit of inspiration, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHyWoNK3Dr4, from Frederic Lilien. “The Legend of Pale Male” just won Best of Festival 2009 at the prestigious International Wildlife Film Festival. http://thelegendofpalemale.com/HOME.html

Oh Joyce,
that is just beautiful. I am still in tears.
I know bilogists do not get our attachment to these magnificent raptors and keep telling us it is nature. but I became a falcon watcher due to Mariah, Kyver, Beauty and Handsome.
So this year has been a harsh one for me, .
and then with the death of Orville at Columbus, I felt a great big void.
thank-you for keeping such good track of our Mariah.
