Morning Falcon Watch 11-27-15
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
It was a windy, overcast morning with a temperature of 56 (F) 13 (C)
I started with Seth on the north window ledge of Seneca Towers (ST). I found Billie on the tall antenna on the south end of the building from Seth Green Dr.
She flew off and circled the roof a couple times, returned to the antenna then repeated the circling and disappeared to the north.
I drove down Seth Green Dr. to go check the north end of ST and on the way, came across a couple of young deer eating. Their mother must have signaled to them to join her across the road in Seth Green Park because they ran over and then they all went down into the gorge out of sight.
I did find Seth still on the north window ledge with his back to me and so I left for downtown. From the Andrews St. bridge (ASB) I couldn’t miss the whiteness of Dot.ca (DC) on the top I-beam northeast side of OCSR. He had a full crop and there were feathers dangling below him on a cobweb so he’d had a meal recently. I went over to Bragdon Place by the Radisson Hotel to get closer.
DC took off at 8:10am and flew over to the Frontier Communications tower (FCT). I had to take a phone call and while I was doing that Larry reported seeing a falcon with a pigeon flying over Crossroads Park and going to the Ellwanger & Barry building. I first checked on DC then made my way over to State St. to watch Beauty.
I went over to the parking lot by Dunkin’ Donuts at State and Church St. where I could see the Beautyful one better but the back lighting wasn’t good there so back to State St. across from the Powers building I went.
Boy, there were a lot of feathers raining down as Beauty prepped and began eating her fresh catch. I’m sure DC was watching her from FCT but since his crop was full he let her eat in peace today.
I had to get going to an appointment but I stopped on the ASB to see if DC was still on the FCT. He was and so I was on my way.
I ended my watch at 9am with a smile after seeing 4 of Rochester’s resident Peregrine Falcons! 🙂
