Carol P. – Early Morning Flights – 6/20/08 – 8-9:30 am
I decided to head out at 8:00 a.m. for my Watch, since no one was
scheduled until 9:00/9:30 a.m. I met Dan S, Jeanne and Larry O,
sitting near Falcon Watch HQ and received their report of that
morning. All 5 eyases were accounted for, plus Mariah and Kaver.
I was left by myself for awhile, with a quick visit by Jim P. During
the 8-9 a.m. hour all you know what broke loose. Mariah and Kaver took
turns trying to entice the young ones into flight and there were two
takers, Susan B and Zephyr. The sky was full of kakking and wonderful
flying. The eyases on the tower were flapping their wings in support,
with hopes that they would soon join their siblings. At one point
Susan B and Zephyr flew together in play. They are such a joy to watch.
Quest chose that moment to migrate into the playpen, leaving Seneca by
herself in the nest box. Mariah flew in with some food and a little
TLC for her reluctant daughter.
Lisa McK and Linda joined me around 9:00 a.m. and we attempted to find
all five eyases, with no luck. The most we could get was 4 at a time.
Has Diamante fledged? Is he hunkered down in the playpen somewhere.
We’ll keep watching for the 5th. Since Mariah and Kaver aren’t
worried, either am I.
At one point, Kaver was flying around being chased by (we believe)
Susan B. He landed on the peaked metal roof on the west side of the
tower and Susan B eventually joined him, father and very large daughter
sitting side-by-side. It was a Kodak moment! 🙂
I had to leave at 9:30 a.m. but promised to be back at noon, leaving
Lisa, Linda and now Lucy on Watch. I can’t wait! I wouldn’t give this
up for anything. If you live close-by, you should join us. You have
no idea what you’re missing.

Dear Carol, Jess, and all you watchers,
Thanks SO much for your wonderful recounts of what must be a very exciting time.
I am following you from St. Augustine, Florida EVERY DAY and wait for your reports as I have limited views (although EXCELLENT). I’m always glad to hear that Zephyr is doing so well: I haven’t seen him in the “Main View” camera for some days, and was worried about him. I discovered your blogs and am greatly reassured! I hope that Quest manages with her transmitter. She has looked a little “encumbered” even after managing to get to the roof of the box!
It must be a marvelous sight to see their first attempts, and Zephyr seems to be shining!
A coincidence this morning: my husband and I were watching a C-Span program from the 90’s about Watergate… a “reminiscence” by a number of participants. Johm Dean or Samuel Dash (I think) referred to a “full fledged” investigation, and the lights went on… is that another familiar quote from Sheakespeare, I wonder? Anyway, it put fledging in a whole new light!!
Thanks again for making our retirement even more enjoyable. We will keep track of all of you with great enjoyment from now on!

Thanks, Carol, for the fine report of Friday 6/20 AM. Have all 5 been accounted for yet? Your report said one was not accounted for.
Is Seneca okay? She hasn’t moved yet, and she looks smaller. Your report said Mariah brought her come food, but I haven’t seen it.
I can’t wait to come down and see the live flight after all these years of watching via falconcam.

If I come down there, what is the best way to get there and where do I park? I’m coming from Gates, and trying to avoid all the expressway construction on 490.
This all sounds like to much fun to miss!

@ MJC: Zephyr is in the box with Seneca right now and she is definitely bigger than he is, so I’m sure she is just fine. 🙂 There is always seems to be one that just likes to hang out for a bit longer than the others.
Thank you Carol and other watchers for the detailed accounts. It makes the long-distance watching so much better!!

@Donna- Go east on Rt. 104, and turn right on State Street. I’d recommend parking in the State Street garage– there’s not much on-street parking left with the new townhouse construction.
