At least the egg wasn't Helga Jean
3 eggs is a good number for these 2 new parents-to-be and 3 are much easier for Archer to handle.
Hey! I just had a thought
IF the egg is located (the shell specifically) would this breakage (could it) be a residual of many generations back DDT? Those eggs shattered, but...

If the egg had been left in the nest box, the DEC would have taken it on banding day for analysis. I'm sure the Watchers will be on the look out. If anyone finds it or a piece of it, we'll be sure to save it for the DEC.

Similar to Rochester, the Dayton Ohio falcons laid 4 eggs and on April 5th and 6th removed 1 egg each day. Because we have no documentation of our egg removal, it is interesting and educational to see how they were picked up and removed.
Click on Photo Gallery. Then go to the Sub Albums for April 5 and April 6 at:
http://www.boonshoftmuseum.org/falconcam.html
(Also noted under Boonshoft topic under Raptor Web Cams)

I wondered about that egg, because they all started out about the same color and that one turned lighter.
Depending on how far along development is I would think they might be able to tell there was something different about that egg when they turned them.
