Durand Eastman Park and the Lady In White

{The story tells of a woman, named Eelissa, who has been wandering this area since the early 1800′s in search of someone. As it’s been passed down through the generations, pieces of the story have been lost and there are now a few different versions.
In one version, Eelissa was the victim of an abusive husband who eventually left her for another woman. Blinded by jealousy, she kills them both. Her ghost is said to stalk the roads of the park, “mistaking unfortunate young lovers in cars for her husband and his mistress whom she seeks to slay again and again, doomed to re-enact her crime with fresh victims over the centuries.”}

Sometimes she appears as a thin, ugly old woman, who moves along the shores of Lake Ontario with a pair of dogs. By other accounts she is “a youthful spirit who coalesces from the mists of Durand Lake.”

I grew up and still live within two miles of Durand Eastman Park, and I often drive through the park at night. It is a beautiful park. While I don't have any first hand experience of the White Lady, some of my sister's male high school friends insisted they saw her one night many years ago, along with her dogs. Bear in mind, however, that this was in the late 1960s, and their visions may have had more to do with what they were smoking or dropping than anything else.

It's to the east of where the Genessee meets Lake Ontario. Go to the landmark map...look to the east of the marker for the Coast Guard Station where Billy has been seen...

Oh yeah, I meant to say that you should follow St. Paul Blvd. to Lakeshore Blvd. Lakeshore is a right if you're heading north on St. Paul, or a left if you're heading south on St. Paul. The park is about a mile and a half down Lakeshore Blvd, on the right. Lake Ontario is on your left.
