Doesn't look like there's any gravel in that box.

I think what we're seeing is the playpen...box floor is out of sight below it.
Wonder what they're going to do when the new Tappan Zee bridge is finished? I don't recall if it's staying up or coming down...though it is a few years away...

They're just starting work on the piers now. It's in a slightly different position from the original bridge.

Thruway officials have said the moving process will cost $100,000, an expense they recently tried to cover with money from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. Last month, the EPA struck down the state's plan to borrow $511 million from the program, including
$100,000 for the falcon nest transfer.
That's important because the box for the endangered species has to be carefully relocated to the new Tappan Zee before the existing bridge is dismantled in 2017.

Kinda what I was about to say, Janet - how in the world do "they" cost such things??? Wouldn't you love to see their "cost sheet" or whatever these things are called!

I wouldn't move it for a million bucks! Not with my bridge phobia!

Well, given the other costs, $100K seems pretty reasonable...
The nest box is the cheapest item on the list!

At least the nest box was part of the plan and not an afterthought...
