Mother falcon attacks dog, people in Buffalo, NY
(AP) – 5 hours ago
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Her chicks have left the nest, but a peregrine falcon nesting on a Buffalo tower is proving to be an overprotective mother. Antoine Lanier said he saw the falcon recently chase a teenage boy across a street near the University of Buffalo's South Campus, where a falcon nesting platform is perched on McKay Tower.
Minutes later, Lanier said the falcon swooped in and attacked his dog, leaving the pooch with bloodied paws and ears.
State wildlife biologist Connie Adams said the falcon chicks hatched on the UB tower have left the nest, but the mother remains defensive of her territory.
She said the falcon attacked a pair of bird watchers and a man working on the roof of a Buffalo hospital.
Adams said the mother falcon should become less aggressive in about two weeks.

The DEC is denied access to the Statler building by the Bankruptcy Court, even for banding or rescues. Please, new fledges, fly free and safely!
Sage, are you kidding me? No banding and no rescues allowed? Why? I thought the DEC had the upper hand in all cases where falcons are concerned! I guess not. Very sad. Poor babies.

Everyone is denied access to that building by the Court, including the building owners. Property protection (both creditors and debtors) is part of Bankruptcy protection. We don't have to like the rules, but they are what they are.

Ah ha, knew there were 5 at the Statler Towers. I am so glad the female is okay. Go Statler! These peregrines need to find a more welcoming home for next year. That is such a shame that they couldn't be banded.
Now 5 at Central terminal. Wow! Sage - how many young ones so far from the Buffalo area?
