I had a few minutes to do some homework. I do not believe yesterday's visitor was the same bird that was here in the spring.



Spring left, Summer right

Now that I have done that, I can say what I was thinking. At first quick glance I thought yesterday's bird was Beauty-buff chest, flatish head. Possibly one of last year's girls stopping by for a visit? No way to know, but interesting food for thought. Just hoping everyone stays safe...

I thought the same thing Ei. I was checking out the back feathers on our visitor in this picture. Looks like some brown feathers mixed in. So a 1st year transition bird? Without bands, we'll never know if this may have been Hope or Geraki.  Sad

Yes, it's molt time for her.  Females will molt after the nesting season so they aren't impaired while they are raising kids.  That's how I understand it anyway.  Someone smarter than me can probably explain the process better  happy
