Very Low nest and it looks like a dog house.

I seem to recall something about it being an actual dog house...there is some history behind it, but it's not coming to me right now.

Mitchell and Renetta have taken refuge in their nest as Hurricane Sandy approaches. I hope this beautiful pair will stay safe.

She's probably hunkered down somewhere out of the elements. She's a smart cookie!

I guarantee she's not on her 5th column of Xerox! Hopefully up in the elevator shaft of OCSR high and dry!!! And maybe Pigott and DC are in their cubby over at BS. Lots of places at the power plant at KP for KPF to get shelter too.

Heartbreaking news. It seems Renetta has passed away . SGB alerted us yesterday to a problem and as the day wore on she laid motionless, barely breathing in the nest box. She is still there this morning, not moving and not breathing.
Just a tragedy and so unexpected - no idea as to why as there are no visible signs of distress or wounds at all.

Oh dear! I feel so sad! Will anyone be able to discover why this happened? Had there been a battle or anything? Sweet thing.

They are in a remote area on an island, it's like a marsh and it's not easily accessible by humans is my understanding. I've seen photos of the area from outside and it's like marshes and water where the nestbox is on stilts. I expect they will have to make arrangements to retrieve her.
I know several weeks ago there was a territorial dispute as it was seen on cam but the other pair moved on - both of them seemed fine after it. But being so remote an area, if something did happen recently likely no one saw it. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.

Thanks, Carly. As they are in such a remote place, one hopes the cause of death was natural, rather than due to poisoning or shooting (as so often here in Ireland! Shame!).

Saw this on FB
I'm surprised that nobody has posted that the Cobb Island falcon nest has an intruder. No fighting--in fact there was bowing between the 2 girls. Wondering if the intruder is a relative of Eve (the resident falcon). There has been a lot of rain & wind there this afternoon so it could be that this intruder is simply waiting for the storm to pass. (There isn't much shelter other than the falcon igloo on Cobb Island.)
What say about this?
