Help with Bird ID

Can't seem to post these pictures in the normal way. Just trying to ID this Bird
that came to my Finch Feeder. Same size as a Goldfinch. Thanks for your help and
I hope this works.

All I can do to help from here at work is copy over the instructions for online thumbnail posting from the FAQ...

Online Option
Use this option if the picture you want to put into your post is on a web page online. This is the preferred option because it doesn't use up storage space on Rfalconcam's web server.

1. Right click on the picture, and select <Copy image location> (depending on your browser, it might not match word for word).

2. Type in your message here on the forum, and when you want to insert the picture, click on the little picture icon on the 2nd row just underneath the I icon, which when you hover over it, says <Insert image>.

3. A box will pop up. Paste the image location you copied in step 1 into the box, and then hit <Enter>. It will pop the address, in correct form, into your post for you.

4. Preview or send your message.

NOTE: For pictures from the Rfalconcam Archive Viewer, use its Share button and copy the HTML code to your post.


If this doesn't help, I'll see what I can do when I get home.

I just copy and pasted the links into my explorer bar and the photos opened fine.

The bird looks like a British Goldfinch to me.  Very cool.

I looked up this Bird and it sure looks like one to me. Don't know what it's doing in my area ( about 25 miles east of the nest box ) might be someone's pet Bird. I'll keep food  out for him. Hope he stays around.

Yup European Goldfinch (far more colorful than American ones  )

I understand there have been attempts to introduce these birds in the US, without much success. I have sadly seen these as caged birds. Deliberate introduction of non native species is always risky - notables being the European Starling and House Sparrow, and in Britain the Grey Squirrel).

European Goldfinches visit my feeders from time to time. The best way to attract them is to put out thistle or nyjer seed if you can get it. You will need a special feeder with small holes to prevent the seed spilling. Attached are a couple of pics from my feeders

Those feeders and seed are very common here and can be found in local hardware stores (ACE Hardware, Ginha is where we buy ours).
