Thought for Today

"I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.
'We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,'
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December."
- Oliver Herford, I Heard a Bird Sing

“Cat: a pygmy lion who loves mice, hates dogs, and patronizes human beings.â€

Ah, that's a much nicer poem about December than the one I put in for November!!  But then again, December is always nicer in my neck of the woods, than November is!

The Cat Quote -- how very, very true!!  I've always considered cats to be The Masters!!  rofl

Interesting...November is much nicer here; our fall color doesn't usually peak until the first week of November, so it's usually very pretty.  Even now, on December 3rd, many of the oak trees (and our sweetbay magnolia) are holding onto their leaves.  I hate the dark of the early winter, however...

"I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't wanna know. Some things are better left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you those voices soared, higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free."
~Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding - From the Shawshank Redemption.

Be kind to the outside creatures.

Remember them on these really cold, snowy days.

My bird feeders are full and the suet is available to whoever needs it.

When I go out to fill the tube feeder hanging from the tree in my backyard, I am serenaded by beautiful Gold Finches and Chickadees.  "HURRY!  PLEASE HURRY!"  sparrow finch

Really good advise, Carol!  I always carry in-the-shell peanuts in my coat pocket for any squirrels or pigeons I happen upon.  The other day, when I was buying some new earbuds for my MP3, the salesman looked startled, when I pulled the actual MP3 out and it was covered in peanut "dust"!  I explained and he looked thoughtful for a minute and decided that that was a good idea ('though, he still looked at me as if I was a little loopy!  rofl)  It's a good idea to tell other people about Carol's advise!
