Looking for the nestbox on the Mid-Hudson Bridge
«

There's now a
walkway
over the Hudson River on an old railroad trestle from Highland to Poughkeepsie. I've been looking for the peregrine nest on the Mid-Hudson Bridge for YEARS from the ground-never found it. I decided to try from the walkway today. No luck.
The sign on the bridge even says they're there
Only bird I saw was Buddy's cousin (and it was so cloudy you could barely see him-Picasa created this interesting enhanced version)
It was a nice day, though. I'll find them. They are out there.

If all else fails, you could have lunch at Joe D's place on the west shore
All roads and waterways lead to food

Hmmm...never heard of it...my favorite just below the walkway is Mariner's (used to be Mariner's Harbor). Best lobster this side of Maine.

That's it and I knew I was wrong thinking it was DiMaggio's place - it was the Scooter's (gimme a break, I'm going back 20 years here). Food was great and we used to dock there overnight.

The NYS Bridge Authority put up that sign. It sure would be nice if the city of Rochester would put up some signs like this around Downtown.

The mayor knows about the falcons! When he has come out of City Hall and has seen the watchers, he says "falcons?" I think he needs to declare them the city's bird. (He is running for lieut governor so we may not have him for long:(

You know - maybe it is just me and the Irish Experience... but I am not sure I would agree with putting signs up to signal the presence of PFs or any other BoP. It seems like an invitation to pigeon fanciers, egg collectors: "Target! This way!" It may be different when they nest on tall, inaccessible buildings - but here, they choose cliff faces, old quarries. And anyone in the bird world would never tell anyone else where they are. I think I mentioned before that the Wicklow Head PFs had a 24-hour guard on them for a long time. The ROC nestbox might be ok, but it worries me. Of course we want others to learn and share our passion, but I am wary. I'm sure I'll get feedback!

In Arlington, to get signs put up you go before the Zoning Board (for County issues). My guess is Mid-Hudson falls under NYS (opposed to further down the river which would be NY Port Authority). In short, pick you entry point and then find out whether Rochester, County, NYS or Feds have authority and then go before the appropriate authority. Guess that should keep someone busy for a few years

I wouldn't want a sign on the TS building with an arrow pointing up but maybe a few signs around the area letting people know there are Falcons. They have deer crossing, bear crossing sometimes even Duck crossings. I think they deserve a sign or 2 or 3...etc.

I would like to see something like these street light banners that you see everywhere in the city:
They could be put up on all street lights within 2-3 blocks of Broad and Exchange, and they could easily be swapped out during the off-season for holiday banners, etc.
EDIT: Notice that the one on the left has a peregrine color scheme.

There is no way those nutjobs are getting up to the nest box on Times Square. Security is too tight.

And about 5000 pictures would be taken of anyone attempting it
