Panama Canal
«

I've been watching the Panama Canal cams looking for the bat falcon, but they seem to have moved the cam-it doesn't point at the ladder any more. But I did see evidence today that it's still around...
I think they might have re-mounted it ON the ladder
Interesting aside...I was watching one day when and employee came in-we chatted about what we needed to-he left then came running back.
He: What are you watching?
Me: The Panama Canal.
He: I used to work there!
Me: Small world!

Really? There is a bird called a "bat falcon"? I did not know that (among other things...)

Yup, a few years ago, I wrote to them to ask what kind of Falcon that was. The nice man replied and said it was a Bat Falcon and they have been there for years. Used to see the Falcon every day but they keep changing the angle of the cam.

Thanks, Ei. What a little gorgeous. Kinda like a kestrel/falcon. And quite possibly the nicest thing about the Canal Zone, from the looks of it...

I don't think they have moved the camera...they have added a high definition camera. The regular camera I think is in the same position. They just have to put it at a certain angle in order to see the perch.

True-and the high def cam is much better than the old one. I wonder if they mounted it where the falcon used to perch? We're bound to catch him up there eventually.

No birds, but there's a cruise ship going through the Miraflores lock right now
