Even though the other posts are over 6 months old on this thread, I thought you might like an update on the 2011 fledglings. Bruce Yolton has great pictures of FIVE! I was told there were four eyases a couple of weeks ago.
Enjoy!

The highlight of my day was seeing four of the fledglings. One adult was watching over the three that made it to the World Church Offices next to Riverside Church. And One almost fledgling was still in the scrape.
And one really clueless pigeon just below the adult and the scrape:

All five successfully fledged!! Here are pictures. And the adults retrieved a mystery banded prey leg from one of the fledglings. What is it?

Actually all five had fledged by Sunday morning. I saw them on other parts of the church and the world chuch headquarters.

I got a new lens and had to try it out. I have wanted to go to Riverside Church in the evening when the light would be behind me. I managed to avoid the accidents on the West Side Highway and get to church. After about 15 minutes I was rewarded with falcon fireworks erupting from the top of the World Church Headquarters right next to Riverside. I counted at least five flying up from the top of the building. At least three of those had to be juveniles. One had to be an adult making a food drop. There was another falcon on the top of the antenna on the church and I assumed it was the adult who always perches there. Wrong! It was a juvie. Two juvies, male and female, then proceeded to fly back and forth between the two buildings. At one point one tried to knock the antenna juvie off. These birds have one of the safest places in the NYC area to learn to fly and hunt. There are very few windows that can confuse the birds and lots and lots of ledges on the church. One birder I met last week who manages the water drip in Riverside Park reported Chris Nadereski had told him that the prey remains at this scrape are varied with a lot of waterfowl. He could apparently tell that the food had to come from Liberty Marsh and Liberty State Park.
