Last year I cut out some old branches from this shrub to encourage new growth below, intending to top it off this year.

But look carefully-the cut off old branches were a perfect spot for a nest...won't be trimming this one any time soon!

That was last week.  This week I had to mow the lawn-Mom Robin was not pleased, but I did the area by the nest as fast as I could.  But I had to take a peek-with my camera-

I left them quickly so they won't get chilled.

And one more item that won't be used during nesting season-

My clothespin bag.  Don't know what's nesting-didn't see any eggs-but I guess I'll find out at some point!

How lucky you are.  The robin's eggs are gorgeous.
And those babies, Wow.
I am anxious to hear what is in your clothespin bag.
So exciting.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Quick capture before Momma thumped me-2 babies are getting big!

Found this diagram of feather growth on the Richmond Pefa site today

I can't believe how much bigger they are in less than a day!

I dared 2 pics 'cause Momma was already totally ticked off at me for mowing near her babies.

The unhatched egg is gone.  They probably pushed it over the side. Have to look under the nest when I go back outside.

One good thing about the bizarre weather-my Peace roses managed to bloom before the Japanese beetles got them for the first time ever!

And the House Finches have fledged their first clutch of the season! Too dark to get a pic of the babies, but Dad was showing them how to land and eat from my feeders!

I love the Peace Rose-your flowers are just beautiful!  I had one many years ago at another home I lived in and we decided to buy a new bush this year-my first flower just opened today. Love your birdies too!

I am such a sap.

The squirrels have figured out how to get onto one of my feeders. I usually just chase them & they stay away for a while.

It started pouring rain a little while ago. I saw one on the feeder.

(horrible picture-sorry)

Couldn't chase her...she's got milk.  She's stocking up for her babies.

The answer is
I saw Momma going in & out when I was mowing the backyard.

I also had a fledgling House Finch on the ledge this afternoon...Mom & Dad were trying to teach it to eat on it's own...it said FEED ME!
