Didn't a cop, firefighter, or soldier sing the National Anthem after 9/11?

It was incredible being there.  I remember the tailgate parties in the parking lot before the game.  It didn't matter if you were a Giants fan or a Buffalo fan, everyone was friendly.  We parked near the guy who ended up being the big pink energizer bunny.  lol  Nice guy.  He was worried because of the heightened security.  None of the company mascots were being allowed into the game.

Everyone was forced thru small entry points at ground level.  Everyone was swiped by metal detectors.  I remember almost walking into someone on the way in.  I looked up and whoa!  I had come face to face with Warren Moon!  He said excuse me and went on his way.

During the breaks in the game, they would show our troups live on the big screens.  They were watching the game from wherever they were stationed.

When the game was almost ready to start and Whitney Houston walked out onto the field, their was a hush.  Every person stood up, hands over hearts, hats off.  Then she started singing.  To this day I believe it was the best rendition of our national anthem ever.  By the end of the song, the applause and roar from the crowd rose into the beautiful, warm Tampa sky.  That's when we heard a louder roar.  It was my first flyover and I could not have been prouder.

Thanks for posting this reminder Lou.

After seeing Christina Aguilera screw up the National Anthem in Sunday's Superbowl, I thought I'd offer a look back at Whitney Houston's singing of it in Superbowl XXV. If I remember correctly, the year was 1991 - the year that Scott Norwood missed what was to be the winning field goal 'wide to the right', sending Buffalo home winless in the first of their four Superbowl appearances.

HOWEVER, what really made this national anthem special for me, and perhaps for others, was this was  during the early days of Operation Desert Storm, in which we were all watching television broadcasts of US warplanes attacking Baghdad, Kuwait and other military targets in Iraq for the first time - while Iraq had launched SCUD missile attacks of their own only a handful of days before the Superbowl.  I remember how worried I was about the world.  But I also remember how proud I felt as she sung this song. This is how the song should be sung!

Star Spangled Banner(American Anthem) God Bless America

Some may remember this video. If you had a PC with Win95 back in the 90's, this video came out as a freebie w/ the operating system. I remember watching it on my 'fast' Quantex DX2 266 mhz computer that I spent two grand on.

This is Edie Brickell, singing 'Good Times, Bad Times'.

You may also know that she is the wife of Paul Simon (of Simon and Garfunkel). She had a lukewarm career herself, never making it big, but this is one of my favorites.
