Hey Margaret/All,
Maybe I misunderstood, but I think you said there was a failed nest in 2006? 2006 is the year that Mariah severly injured her foot/leg. She had actually laid 6 eggs that year. A record. Archer was on the eggs and I immediately knew something was wrong when he ducked down his head and pulled out an egg shell. Imagine his surprise and mine! Kaver had never had an eyas hatch under him before. It was always Mariah.
That year 3 eyases hatched. 2 of the 3 have gone on to successfully have young of their own. You may have heard of them. Rhea Mae & Sabrina aka Valiant.
Hi Carol - I do remember 2006 when Kaver was such a good provider, but we were talking about 2009. I think we have ALL blocked it out. That was the year that Beauty and Archer arrived on the scene.
Mariah was here but Kaver didn't come back after the glorious 2008 year. A and B tried Midtown - even though that was the first year of the nestboxes at TS and Powers, and there was speculation that perhaps they had a scrape somewhere. Then that horrible April day when Mariah was injured.
So it was 2009 that Birdcrazy and I were talking about.
Is Linn from that same 2006 hatch or was she 2007? Now it starts to get blurry. The family tree is getting complicated.

I have been lurking but do check here every once in awhile. I really miss the days of Mariah and Kyver.
Beauty will find a mate and Archer will just have to learn to stay on the other side then.
Beauty will thrive. Falcons are loners by nature.
HI Joyce. I started off with Kimmarie at her forum in 2007, but watched falcons and eagles since 2005.
Are you the bev that is also on Bird Cams around the world? I just found that site tonight, and there was much discussion about our Rochester falcons. I had never seen that site before this.
So I lurked around there tonight looking at all the comments about our ROC falcons.
Keep jumping in.

@Margaret - Linn was 2007
@bev. - Hi! I was going to respond to a comment you made on BCAW, but never got around to it. Are you still active with the U of Alberta falcons? Are you still seeing your transmitter girl? I didn't see anything about hatchlings on the website. You're too funny - still calling Kaver...Kyver. Is that the Canadian spelling? LOL!
@Carly - Thanks for all the input. I see the Toronto Residential (one of Jack's locations) lost an eyas. How sad. Could it be because Jack was at the other sight and the female may not have been close by?

hi Joyce: Chicks generally don't fall from a nest ledge unless something is wrong with them - usually neuroligcal. They're born with a fear of heights to prevent just such a thing. Alternatively they do sometimes take a tumble by accident when a sibling might be flapping or something. The MNR will be picking the little one up today to do some testing so we'll see if anything shows up. Jack was likely at our site as Mathew said only TR Mom was there and she watched him pick up the little body. As no one witnessed what happened - they really don't know if it was an accident or not.
For news on 'transmitter girl', Bev posts updates over at the Manitoba site. They removed her transmitter last year and she is back and nesting this year! More details here:

Sometimes they get pushed by siblings.

I'll bet it's that feather that was stuck to the nest box earlier.
Yup, culprit
And LOOK, there it is! Poor Beauty.

Hi,
Yes, I post on BCATW
Just watching Beauty. I know she is going to attract a real looker. ,
I mostly update Edmonton University, Genesse and Weber(all in Alberta) Who am I trying to kid , I am a falconoholic
Joyce: I know you asked me to post on this site, my falocns but I just did not have time.
I got to see MIss Edmonotn, my transmitter girl up close and personal a few times. She nested at WEber building in Edmonton last year and they took her transmitter off her just before banding.
She is on 4 eggs right now.
I usually do not have much time to post on other forums but I have been following this site for so long andI feel bad they did not have young this year.

poor Beauty is right. For some strange reason, a really old adage just popped into mind - "some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue." Kind of twisted to think of it now, but poor Beauty is having a tough year. :-) She is strong like Dorothy.
