LOOKS WHO’S VISITING ME – Downtown Jersey City resident Kadee Shipman and her son found this Peregrine falcon hanging out in their backyard recently.

Pic is small but...is it a falcon??

I believe your instincts are correct-I've never seen a belly band on a peregrine-looks like a red tail to me.

Wish I had had time to grab a camera when I saw the Northern Harrier at my sister's place last autumn... then the pros could have confirmed my ID. Anyone know anything about them? I am pretty sure it was the harrier, due to the white rump. Tho I was surprised to see it in a suburban neighbourhood, ie Browncroft, if anyone knows it...

Just thought... the pix from Bob Marcotte's latest blog are super for Red-Tailed Hawk ID - here's the link again. That belly-band that Ei mentions is quite clear.
