It is with tears as I type, but Schatzi's body has been recovered. I will post more later.

Oh, how very sad for all the Indianapolis falcon fans. Just one this year and she was rescued as well.

Schatzi's body when it was recovered earlier today. She was donated to the Indiana State Museum in hopes that she was in good enough shape to be mounted and displayed someday. I look forward to next year. I'll try to keep you posted on the adults throughout the rest 2014. They will likely both hang around Indy throughout the winter. Talons crossed for continued good health for Will and KathyQ. I almost didn't post this picture so as not to upset anyone, but even in death I think she is beautiful.
Not posting the pic here as it made me cry! I wasn't expecting to see a pic!!

From the IndyStar:
The body was found in a Downtown Dumpster, she said, and through some investigation volunteers — known as falconheads —learned that a parking garage attendant found the body and disposed of it.
That's not how James-Reim would have liked to have seen the body treated, she said.
"Maybe this could be a teachable moment," she said. "If anyone Downtown would ever encounter a dead falcon, they should call DNR (the Indiana Department of Natural Resources), particularly if it is a banded bird."
Details of how and why Schatzi died likely will be forever unknown, James-Reim said.
"The volunteers had not seen her all day yesterday or today," she said. "The weather has not been ideal as far as the rain, but any theories on how she died would just be speculation. I am just sorry for the falconhead community. We didn't have a success this year, (but) we just hope for next year a better outcome."

Thanks for not posting the picture, Donna. And what a surprising thought that while so much has become "virtual" in the world of science and museums today, animals are still occasionally mounted and displayed.
