It was a misty, rainy, dark day in San Jose. One peregrine was on the wall; a little while later, the second falcon appeared out of the mist at the far end of the wall.

Then they flew off together, in perfect unison.

When I checked the cam early yesterday evening, I found Clara in this position:

A little while later, she laid her first egg:

I can't wait for chicks there this year.  Congrats. Glad FCC is back or never left.

We West Coast-ers are sure celebrating these early egg arrivals!  San Francisco got their THIRD egg this morning.

Just for the sake of clarity, the male falcon, the tiercel, at San Jose who has wooed and won Clara this year is Fernando El Cohete, or Fernando "the Rocket".  We mostly just call him Fernando. Last year he displaced the previous tiercel, E.C., or Esteban Colbert, after the eggs E.C. fertilized had been laid.

So this year belongs to Fernando entirely, and he has already taken turns sitting on this new egg.  Celebrate!!

They said last year, after EC was displaced by FC, that EC was observed watching what was going on at the nest site but never interfered. Has anyone seen EC this year-is he still around?

Kris,  mw over at BCAW has reported over the past several months that there have been frequent sightings of EC at his favorite roosting spot on campus.  The most recent one she posted was from February 11th.  handshake

Thanks, Carly! I felt so bad for him last year watching his family from afar but life does go on. I hope he finds another mate this year!
