First, for some perspective, a picture of the nest tray ledge (not sure who took this-it's from a CPF report)

OK-some bigger picture views I caught earlier (the video version was WAY too long)...

I'm not sure how many bays there actually are.  This action happened in the last full bay on the right.

To add a little more information about the nest site.  These ledges are all that remains of cut-off balconies.  The balconies became dangerous and had to be removed.

I KNEW I had seen one with the whole face...courtesy of MAK April 25 & 26 visit...

Interesting...that explains why the edges are so uneven.  Around the far right corner there's a big lump on the edge...now I know why.  Thanks!

Balconies like you can climb out your window on to the balcony? Were there doors at one time? I guess it's a good thing because maybe they wouldn't pick that building if they were still attached. Sayin! Good info Carol, thanks!!

OK thanks E the pictures help - so she's just gone straight across to the farthest ledge - she hasn't gone down at all -I think I'm right. I thought earlier when she was looking down at the cars that she had gone down to a lower level.

Correct-she's still on the same level as the nest tray.

Yes Donna.  From what I was told, it led me to believe that people could go out onto the balconies.  There must have been a way to get out onto them.

Hi all. Just so you know, that camera has quite serious depth of field issues. Objects are MUCH farther away than they appear! The traffic you're seeing is actually two parking lots away from the building. Granted, there's still a driveway/parking lot underneath Harlequin's perch, but there isn't quite as much traffic in our little family's building.

Anyway, just back from fledge watch training and Mark Nash is pretty confident she'll follow the flight paths of her parents, so she'll more than likely be flying at...well...at me! Smiley

We'll be starting watches on Friday nights and I'm quite excited that I may be able to keep a walkie-talkie at my desk!  Grin

Can't wait to hear /read your report, Kat!  YOU sound so much more confident after hearing Mark Nash talk, and the training!  Good for lucky you!

So glad you all had the training and Mark is awesome!!!!  If any of you have cameras with you also, we would happily look at pictures Wink

You all will do super, Kat!!!

Not to change the subject -- but who -- of all of our Roc watchers, are heading to Toronto this weekend to watch our Harlequin fledge?  I am so envious of all of you.    I know you can't keep us posted by the minute  due to international roaming rates, but somehow, can you update the website?   I'm sure MAK, Joyce and Carol are heading to Toronto....anyone else?
Take lots of good pictures, ladies!

Sorry to say I don't know of anyone going to Toronto this weekend. No word on going to Buffalo either.  wave

Yes Donna.  From what I was told, it led me to believe that people could go out onto the balconies.  There must have been a way to get out onto them.

Actually, they weren't balconies. There were decorative rectangular concrete slabs (70s concrete architecture...go figure!) attached to the protruding blocks you can currently see. About two years ago, one of those slabs on the opposite building (to the right) fell off! I was in the office when it happened and it felt like an earthquake! Luckily nobody was hurt, but there's a daycare in that building and it was all pretty frightening. The concrete slabs were removed quite some time ago and there are currently workers on the other building who are removing the protruding blocks and sanding everything flush with the ledges. Mark Nash was talking about this yesterday, because this same work is supposed to happen on Quest & Kendal's building (the concrete is eroding and has become a safety hazard), but because the building is now a protected habitat...well...should be interesting to see how things go. Hmm.
