We took a trip yesterday to visit with Quest and Kendal and our friends at the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and Harlequin.  We wanted to see the beautiful new nest box that Quest and Kendal would call home.  WONDERFUL!   clap

Hi Carol,

Did you see Quest & Kendal around the new nest box? Just wondering, because I don't see any sign of them this morning. Also, I'm going to see what's up with the cam! Scott (our operator) probably isn't in yet. Maybe it got bumped or the tripod wasn't tightened enough. Hmm....

Cheers!

Kat, the nest was installed yesterday, see below for pics and here's the link to pics from Saturday when the girls went up to visit!

The cam was good all day yesterday when they were installing the nest. Right after, the cam panned around, like someone was at the helm then it just stayed in the sky!! Mystery!!!

Looks good.  I hope cam picks up on Q or K visiting the new next box.

Been on and off most of the day today, didn't see either one at nest. They really haven't been frequenting the nest lately. I hope they like it and don't reject it. Some just don't like change. Maybe tomorrow!

Pretty sure Kendal flew by my window yesterday afternoon, but I don't see any sign of Q or K this a.m. Usually at least one of them is perched on or near the building. Hope they didn't get turned off by the new digs.

Oh I hope not also Kat. Thanks for the info. If you see them today, please let us know! I worry, as always.

Yep...will do. I'm worried, too! Plus, looking at the new nest box, I can't help but worry about future hatchlings, as it looks pretty close to the edge!

Oh that's not a problem Kat, we've seen worse where the the edge of the nest is hundreds of feet to the ground. The little ones are usually scared to wander to the edge until they are old enough. I'm more concerned if Q and K will like this new nest. They could be out wandering or worse, migrated to another part of Canada. Time will tell, as always. Thanks for the update.

Worrying is not permitted!

-The new box looks about the same distance from the edge as the old one-and Harlie did stay away from the edge
-The nest box itself isn't their focus now-the territory is.  They may be watching out for those big yellow headed intruders from a safe distance.
-It is migration season.  They may be defending the territory from migrants or...
-They may be on their own road trip at this point.

If I recall correctly, Quest and Kendal had already hooked up last year.

And this is Quest's map from last October...

The color markers are the end of the month...

Hee...okay, okay! And thanks for this info.

Also, it has gotten remarkably colder than it was last week, so perhaps they've taken the cue and decided to get some exercise?!

Hope they don't ditch us, though!

Not likely they will.  This spring wasn't their first visit to the neighborhood.  They may skip out for the winter, but the nest was successful so there's no reason to not come back.  At least according to the "conventional wisdom" which is mostly accurate.

Kendal's on the top ledge and Quest on the bottom.

(PS Hard to see Kendal, almost cut off at the top of the frame!)
